Marine transgression in the Oka estuary, Spain
报告人:
Ian Townend 英国南安普顿大学教授
报告人简介:
Ian Townend is Professor of the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences and the School of Civil Engineering and the Environment, within the University of Southampton. He is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Editor of the journal of Anthropocene Coasts. He is also a visiting professor at NHRI and a Guest professor at SKLEC. He was the Research Director at HR Wallingford, responsible for the strategic direction and development of the research capability as well as helping to develop new initiatives within the water sector. Ian also spent 13 years as Managing Director of ABPmer and 18 years as a consultant with Halcrow. He has worked on a wide range of coastal and marine studies in the UK and overseas. This has included leading one of the first regional scale coastal studies in the UK that helped frame the subsequent development of Shoreline Management Plans; piloting of the application of risk methods to examine coastal flooding at a national scale for the insurance industry; leading the UK estuary research programme; and working on several major development schemes. He recently led the consortium undertaking the UK Climate Change Risk Assessment on behalf of Defra. His own research is largely related to estuaries and coasts and involves a wide range of interests including hydraulics, sediment transport, and geomorphology, as well as the associated habitats and ecosystems. He has published more than 100 articles in international journals.

Charismatic versus critical: The missing mudflats!
报告人:
David M. Paterson 英国圣安德鲁斯大学教授
报告人简介:
Prof David M. Paterson, personal chair at the University of St Andrews, is Executive Director of the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS) and Chairs the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal Environmental Advisory Group (SOTEAG). He has 25 years of research experience on marine systems and held a Royal Society University Research Fellowship at Bristol University before moving to St Andrews. He directs the Sediment Ecology Research Group (SERG) working on the dynamics and ecology of coastal systems, establishing an international reputation scholarship in marine science. Professor Paterson has led many successful interdisciplinary projects (EU and National) involving biodiversity, ecosystem function, ecosystem services, and global change biology, particularly the effects multiple stressors. He also advises industry, academic institutions, and Scottish Government. As a Champion of the UKRI “Sustainable Management UK Marine Resources” programme he is promoting inter and trans-disciplinary solutions to the challenges of marine policy development.

Prediction in coastal morphodynamics – where does uncertainty hide?
报告人:
Giovanni Coco 新西兰奥克兰大学教授
报告人简介:
Giovanni Coco obtained a PhD with a thesis on nearshore morphodynamics at the University of Plymouth (UK). After 3 years at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography (USA) and 8 years at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NZ), in 2011 he joined the University of Cantabria (Spain) with an Excellence fellowship. In 2015 he returned to New Zealand at the University of Auckland where he is currently Professor in the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on coastal processes using approaches that include numerical and data-driven modeling informed by field and laboratory observations.
